Organisations face increasing risks from employee misconduct, insider threats, falsified qualifications, social media activity and inappropriate workplace behaviour. This on-demand webinar explores how employers can better understand who they employ through effective screening, vetting and ongoing employee risk management.
Sometimes, this effort is solely concentrated at an early recruitment stage but moreover, it is during employment when the most serious and vulnerable challenges arise. Recent issues have been well publicised and a lot of negative publicity and reputational harm has been caused.

When we are recruiting, are we simply too trusting about what candidates are telling us rather than checking what we are asked to believe? Many examples spring to mind: in the UK, the Public Inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire that cost 72 people their lives found that the fire assessor responsible for the building had “misrepresented his experience and qualifications (some of which he had invented)”, and in the US where a member of the US Congress had misrepresented his education and work record but nevertheless refused to resign from his post, or the Yahoo CEO who did resign after admitting that he didn’t have a computer science degree after all. If trust is the cornerstone of the employer/staff relationship, how do we navigate the paradox of checking facts without generating a culture of suspicion in the workplace?
Are employers being caught out by the misbehaviour of their staff more now than they used to be, or is it just more visible? Are the rights to freedom of expression, and to private and family life putting employers on the backfoot in terms of setting and maintaining reasonable standards that affect work and the workplace?
Are we making the best use of technologies so that employment decisions are the right ones? If AI can help us, what are the strengths and weaknesses, and what are the legal and practical considerations of its use?
In This Webinar You Will Learn
This webinar explores the challenges organisations face when verifying the integrity, suitability and trustworthiness of employees throughout the recruitment process and beyond. Topics include:
- Why employee screening matters and the risks of relying solely on information provided by candidates.
- Lessons from high-profile cases where false qualifications, fabricated experience or undisclosed behaviour resulted in significant organisational and reputational damage.
- Balancing trust and verification, including how to carry out proportionate checks without creating a culture of suspicion.
- Managing employee conduct, including the impact of social media, freedom of expression and behaviour outside the workplace.
- Using AI and technology to support recruitment and employee screening, together with the legal, ethical and practical considerations.
- Building a proportionate employee screening programme that supports better recruitment decisions while protecting your organisation.
Questions To Consider In Your Organisation
As you watch this webinar, consider whether your organisation can confidently answer the following questions:
- Do we verify qualifications, employment history and professional memberships for all relevant roles?
- Are our pre-employment screening and vetting processes proportionate to the risks associated with each position?
- Could someone misrepresent their experience or credentials and join our organisation without being identified?
- Do we have clear policies for managing employee behaviour that may affect the workplace or our reputation?
- Are we making appropriate use of technology, including AI, to support recruitment and screening decisions?
- Do we review employee risk throughout employment, or only during recruitment?
- Would we identify concerns early enough to prevent reputational, operational or security issues?
